Commercial Aircraft in India

Our products & services

Airbus entered the commercial aviation market in India with the introduction of the A300B2 in the Indian Airlines fleet in 1976. Today, Airbus is India’s aircraft of choice, accounting for about 75% of both the domestic commercial aviation market as well as the order book. These include the single-aisle A320 Family that has democratised air travel in India, and the latest A350 wide-body aircraft ordered by Air India & IndiGo promises to transform long-haul travel by Indian carriers.

Helicopters in India

Our products & services

Airbus’ association with India goes back to the early 1960s with the industrialisation of the Cheetah and Chetak helicopters by the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Today, Airbus Helicopters is the market leader in the Civil & Parapublic sector in India & South Asia with almost 40% share and an in-service civil fleet of more than 100 helicopters. In its commitment to developing a comprehensive helicopter industrial and services ecosystem in the country, Airbus will be setting up the H125 Final Assembly Line in India along with its industrial partner Tata.

Defence and Space in India

Our products & services

Airbus is playing a key role in developing India’s aerospace and defence ecosystem, further contributing to the Indian Government’s vision of 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India). In 2021, the Indian Air Force (IAF) signed a contract to procure 56 C295 aircraft to replace its AVRO fleet. As per the contract, 40 aircraft will be manufactured and assembled in partnership with Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. at the Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vadodara, Gujarat. Remaining 16 will be delivered to the IAF in ‘fly-away’ condition from Airbus’ FAL in Seville, Spain.

Engineering and innovation

Airbus Engineering Centre in Bengaluru employs close to 1500 engineers playing a vital role in Airbus' global operations and specialising in high-tech aeronautical engineering across both fixed- and rotary-wing Airbus aircraft programmes. In February 2023, Airbus launched India & South Asia Innovation Centre, which drives industrialisation of disruptive technologies by harnessing technical expertise and co-creating with the robust external ecosystem.

Customer services and training

Airbus accords priority in providing fast and easily accessible support and services to its customers in the region, helping them adapt and thrive in a dynamic business environment. Based in New Delhi & Bengaluru, a team of close to 500 members provide field service, fleet efficiency and engineering services to Airbus customers across the region. Airbus Training Centre at New Delhi Headquarters accommodates four A320neo Full Flight Simulators and is pivotal in creating a robust pipeline of highly trained pilots and maintenance professionals.

Digital centre

The state-of-the-art Digital Centre in Bengaluru is the backbone of Airbus’ Digital Transformation. The centre has grown very steeply and is currently the 2nd largest Digital Centre after the one at the headquarters in Toulouse, France. Today, the centre focuses on in-sourcing core capabilities across four main dimensions namely, modernising the core such as ERP & PLM systems, powering digital capabilities, enabling strategic digital transformation, and IT Infrastructure.
