Airbus in Romania
Airbus has a strong local presence in Romania through Airbus Helicopters Romania and Premium AEROTEC Romania, both in Brasov, and Airbus Defence and Space Romania, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Airbus Defence and Space GmbH, in Bucharest.
Airbus Helicopters Romania, a joint venture between Airbus Helicopters (60%) and IAR (40%), is a centre of excellence for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of civil and military helicopters. Airbus’ commitment to Romania deepened in 2016 with the creation of a new plant, whose primary goal is to produce the H215M helicopter in close collaboration with IAR.
Premium AEROTEC Romania, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Airbus, manufactures detailed parts and complex assemblies for the commercial Airbus aircrafts and for the military transport aircraft A400M. The plant exports 100% of its business, which means that every Airbus aircraft has parts made in Romania.
Airbus Defence and Space Romania is an engineering, roll out integration and service hub for the full spectrum of the Airbus Defence and Space products and projects.

In Romania, Airbus has been present for 50 years through its collaboration with IAR and is an active contributor to the Romanian aeronautical industry, with significant added value: over 9.000 direct and indirect jobs, continuous staff qualification, economical benefits and important investments in education.
Airbus has created a local ecosystem and through its 3 divisions present in Romania, carries out MRO, sales, engineering and manufacturing activities.
Commercial Aircraft in Romania
Our products & services
Premium AEROTEC Romania (2009) performs manufacturing and assembly of metal and non-metal components using new technologies in the field of aluminium and carbon fibre for all commercial Airbus series and for the military transport aircraft A400M.
Several Romanian airlines, charter operators and private companies are flying a variety of Airbus aircraft (A318, 319, 320, 321 and quite soon A220) in Romania today.
Helicopters in Romania
Our products & services
Airbus Helicopters Romania, established in 2002, is a certified EASA Part 145 Customer Center of Airbus Helicopters, quite recently certified RMAR 21J, with maintenance, repair and overhaul activities related to the civil, parapublic and military markets, working for customers from more than 30 countries, with 70% of its business for export.
The company markets and sells the full range of Airbus civil and military helicopters in Romania and neighbouring countries.

Airbus and Romania have been building strong ties over the last 50 years.
One of the notable milestones in the Airbus-Romania partnership was the implementation of the largest border security project in Europe (securing the 1,900 km long EU-external borders of Romania) which brought further increase of the Airbus Defence footprint in 2005, when “Airbus Defence and Space Romania” was created providing secure communications and systems engineering
Corporate citizenship
Airbus believes in investing in the future and regularly works with educational institutions to develop future talent. Airbus Helicopters Romania has partnered with Transilvania Technical College to implement an educational program focused on developing a new generation of avionics and airframe technicians.
The wholly Airbus-owned subsidiary Premium AEROTEC Romania is one of the founders of the German Kronstadt Professional School and a key supporter of the Brasov Technical Campus.
Local partnerships
Airbus has strengthened its presence in Romania over the past 50 years by developing exclusive business relations with companies which are representative of this segment of the industry: IAR, Aerostar, Comoti, Sonaca, Aeroteh, Turbomecanica, Aerofina, INCAS, UAC and others.
Further steps were taken by signing, in 2018 and 2021, the two exclusive Industrial Cooperation Agreements with IAR for the local manufacturing and customization of the H215M and H145M helicopters.
