Elena Schmidt is the Executive Director of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials Association (RSB) – a collaborative network of global organisations advancing the just transition to a net-positive world. Elena joined the RSB in 2015 and served as the RSB Standards Director until taking over as Executive Director. Prior to joining the RSB, she was Head of the TÜV SÜD Certification Body for Climate and Energy.
At Airbus Summit 2025, Elena Schmidt will share insights on SAF, drawing from her extensive experience with sustainability programmes and a strong record of delivering product and business model innovations. She will discuss the role of certification authorities and the opportunities offered by Book & Claim systems applied to SAF, providing valuable perspectives on how chain of custody models can help decarbonise aviation.
Elena currently serves on the Science Based Targets initiative’s (SBTi) Validation Council, the Smart Freight Centre’s (SFC) Assurance Stakeholder Committee and the Advanced and Indirect Mitigation Platform’s (AIM) Governance Committee. She has previously served as a technical expert at the ICAO Alternative Fuel Task Force and Fuel Task Group.
