Meet Randolf

Airbus Faces

I am working as a helicopter engineer at Airbus Helicopters Philippines. My primary responsibilities involve identifying any defects or unsatisfactory conditions in helicopters during inspections, as well as troubleshooting to determine corrective actions.

What inspired you to be part of the aerospace sector?

My inspiration to join the aviation sector came from my father who was a cabin mechanic. Travelling abroad with him for his work sparked my interest in aviation. This exposure motivated me to pursue a career where I could also travel for training and gain diverse perspectives. I visited the Airbus Marignane site in France for the H160 helicopter training, as well as Singapore and Indonesia for other training programmes. These experiences allowed me to meet and interact with colleagues from different countries.

Concerning the beginning of your career path at Airbus - what was the main drive that led you to apply and be part of this company?

Before joining Airbus, I was a flight engineer limited to performing minor inspections. Major inspections required sending our fleets to Airbus, which made me eager to learn more and develop. I was driven to join Airbus to gain comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry’s safety standards, the technical processes of disassembly and assembly of major components, and to embrace Airbus' core values.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

What I enjoy most is brainstorming with colleagues and sharing ideas during inspections and aircraft deliveries. Engaging in insightful conversations with customers to gather data and prevent future defects is both rewarding and fulfilling.

It's incredibly gratifying to see helicopters fly, knowing I played a part in ensuring their safety and functionality.

Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences from your career at Airbus. What made it so special and unforgettable?

One of my most memorable experiences at Airbus was completing and passing the H160 Initial Training Course in France. This training was special because it involved visiting our parent company's production line and learning about one of the world's most technologically advanced helicopters.

What is the most important advice you have been given and that you would like to give?

The best advice I've received is, "For you to be able to stay in the game, you must wear the right equipment". This means being resourceful, persevering, taking initiative, and being resolved to get things done. My advice to others is that the beginning is often the toughest part. However, once you push through, everything falls into place.

What has been one of the most empowering moments at Airbus?

One of my most empowering moments was being the first engineer in Airbus Helicopters Philippines selected for the H160 training, eventually being authorised to certify its maintenance release. Handling such an advanced helicopter has been a proud and significant milestone in my career.

What are the benefits of working at Airbus?

Working at Airbus offers immense personal development and training opportunities. You gain valuable experience within diverse projects and teams, meet customers from various cultures, and share ideas with a global team.

The values of teamwork and respect at Airbus resonate deeply with me. Effective teamwork  requires sharing and evaluating ideas to address complex problems, while respect fosters the trust essential for a cohesive team environment.

Do you have any hobbies? How do you enjoy spending your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy reading e-books and manga series, taking long motorcycle rides, and spending quality time with family and friends. I also like watching movies to relax and unwind.
