Simar, Project Manager Business Partner at Airbus Canada

What is your current role and where are you based?

I’m a PMBP (Project Manager Business Partner) at Airbus Canada in Mirabel.

While completing her studies in aerospace engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, Simar had the opportunity to complete two internships at Airbus Canada - the first being in 2018 at the Customer Response Center and the second in 2019 in project management with the Quality team. Her positive and enriching experience with the company encouraged her to join the Airbus Canada family in 2022 as a project manager business partner (PMBR), a role she continues to maintain. Simar sat down with us to share more about her experience at Airbus, and to impart encouraging messages to other women interested in pursuing a career in engineering within the aerospace sector.

Can you tell us a bit about your role in relation to the A220 Family aircraft?

I’m the project manager on the change requests impacting the cockpit and the aft fuse.

What inspired you to be a part of the aerospace sector?

I always had an interest in the aerospace sector. Airplanes are fascinating and give you the possibility to work on many engineering aspects. This field is interesting and in constant need of innovation.

Concerning the beginning of your career path at Airbus, what was the main drive that led you to apply and be part of this company?

I had the opportunity to do two internships during my engineering studies at Airbus Canada. The people I worked with and the successful reputation of the A220 made we want to come back and be a permanent employee.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

The interaction I have with many colleagues from different departments.

Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences from your career at Airbus. What made it so special and unforgettable?

Being told by many of my co-workers how they appreciate the work I do and that they enjoy working with me. It makes me feel valuable.

What is the most important advice you have been given, and is there any important advice you would like to give?

My supervisor once told me to resolve my problems piece by piece. I would like to give the same advice and to work on what we can control.

What has been one of the most empowering moments at Airbus?

During our ABBX All Hands event, I was surrounded by successful and powerful women. My supervisor, director and senior director are women - this has also been empowering.

What is the most important message you would like to send out to women considering a career in the aerospace industry?

Don’t be intimidated by this predominantly male industry. We are more than capable of doing great things. We should always be confident with the decisions we make. Our opinion and our expertise matter. Hopefully one day, Airbus Canada will mostly be led by amazing women.

What are the benefits of working at Airbus?

We have the opportunity to work on different engineering fields and benefit from the expertise of experienced colleagues. Airbus also opens doors to international opportunities.

Do you have any hobbies? How do you enjoy spending your free time?

Since Mirabel is not far from the ski slopes, I enjoy skiing with my friends after work hours.
