Our people and our aircraft stand at the core of Airbus’ mission to connect today and tomorrow.
Working at Airbus is a continuous growth process. Within just a few years I have gone from a problem maker to a problem solver!
What is your role at Airbus?
I joined Airbus in 2016 and have worked at the FAL ever since. My main responsibility is to connect the wings with the fuselage. Specifically, I am responsible for the junction of the wings’ lower surface with the fuselage that turns a ‘bus’ into an ‘Airbus’.
What is the best part of your job?
Working at Airbus is about continuous growth. I started out six years ago. Of course, new employees sometimes make mistakes. Wing structure assembly requires quite a lot of manual work and technical understanding. Yet, within just a few years I have gone from a problem maker to a problem solver!
What do you value most at Airbus?
Teamwork! Assembling an aircraft is not just about the shopfloor. It needs the support and contribution of many other departments, such as Logistics and Quality. We can’t do our job without them! Teamwork is just as important within the production teams, too. The process and quality requirements involved in each step of connecting the wings to the fuselage are complex and intense. For example, it takes two people to work inside and outside the fuel tanks, and they can’t actually see each other. Without perfect coordination, it would be impossible to complete this key part of assembling an aircraft in just 3.5 days.
What attracted you to working in Operations?
Compared to my previous employers Airbus offers advantages such as attractive salary and benefits. Additionally, Airbus cares about its shopfloor workers. I feel Airbus is willing to invest in production safety, working environment safety and labour protection. For example, anyone can use a simple phone app to report any unsafe situation, with follow-up guaranteed. “Speak-up!" is not a slogan, it is something we practice every day. Transparency, continuous improvement and an emphasis on people are the most attractive aspects of Airbus' management.
