From British Columbia to Nova Scotia, Airbus and its thousands of employees have robust industrial activities in the country, covering the commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space sectors for more than 40 years.

Airbus is a positive factor for the Canadian economy: creating approximately 27,000 indirectly-sustained jobs in aerospace; working with more than 1,050 suppliers; and sourcing more than $2 billion CAD from Canadian companies.

In Canada, more than 5,300 people work at the ten sites and offices of Airbus and its subsidiaries, including over 4,000 in Quebec. The main production sites are the A220 commercial aircraft programme headquarters and Airbus Atlantic Canada, both in Mirabel, Quebec. Airbus Helicopters Canada in Fort Erie, Airbus Defence and Space Canada and AirPro SAR Services in Ottawa and NAVBLUE in Waterloo are located in Ontario. Other Airbus sites and subsidiaries are located in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec.

Here to stay

From its first helicopter manufacturing facility in 1984 to the Defence and Space business unit and production of the A220 Family single-aisle aircraft, Airbus has a long-standing relationship with Canada.

The A220 Family transferred to Airbus’ stewardship in 2018 as these new-generation 100-160-seat aircraft were brought into the Airbus line-up. Recently, a PwC study revealed the economic impact of the A220 estimated at more than $ 40 billion CAD over 20 years in Canada.

Moreover, for the A220 Programme whose headquarters are in Canada, there have been more than 960 historical orders and over 506 deliveries worldwide (as of end of April 2026).

Airbus is the leader in Canada for civil and parapublic helicopters, supporting more than 830 aircraft for 230+ customers across the country.

The manufacturing site in Fort Erie is a centre of excellence in engineering and composite manufacturing, producing parts for eight different helicopter types, as well as the centre of excellence for Airbus light single engine gearboxes worldwide.

The Government of Canada has awarded Airbus Defence and Space with a contract for four newly-built Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport aircraft (MRTT) and for the conversion of five used A330-200s in a quest to strengthen Canada’s continental defence capabilities.

Airbus is also part of a joint venture called AirPro SAR Services (Airbus DS and PAL Aerospace) which was created to manage the in-service support of the CC-295 Kingfisher for the Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue Aircraft Replacement (FWSAR) project.

Sparkwing is the world’s first commercially available, off-the-shelf solar array for small satellites. It is optimised for Low Earth Orbit missions that require power levels between 100W and 2000W. It offers customers a choice of more than thirty different panel dimensions, configurable into deployable wings with one, two or three panels per wing.
