October is National Safe Work Month in the Australia Pacific region. An important part of this is mental health. For us, it’s an additional opportunity to think about our work colleagues and peers mental health and wellbeing.
This is the nice story about Adam and his best colleague Choppa. The 8 month old Labrador has been the pawfect addition to the team! He is accompanied by Head of Safety Systems, Adam two days a week at Airbus Australia Pacific in our Brisbane office.
“I have been volunteering to raise Choppa since he was 8 weeks old. When he is 12 months old he will return to Empower Assistance Dogs to start advanced training and then go to a person with a disability that will be his handler.”
“It’s important Choppa is well socialised and use to different environments, so I have been taking him everywhere, including the workplace.”
“Coming from a military background I know a lot of people dealing with mental health issues such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I have also lost people I have worked with and friends to suicide. I thought helping to raise a puppy who will one day help someone who needs an assistance or therapy dog would be a good cause and a way to give back to the community.”
