At Airbus, we aim to continuously and proactively improve the operational safety of our products. This is why we engage beyond the strict perimeter of our responsibilities. We contribute to the global enhancement of the way our products are operated and we help reach zero-accident air transportation around the world.

One way of doing this is through workshops and seminars to provide our stakeholders – as well as the interested public – with background information on safety topics.

What do we do?

For Airbus Commercial Aircraft, our Safety teams contribute to exchange programmes with national aviation authorities in order to strengthen their capacity to oversee local aircraft operations. Against this backdrop, Airbus safety representatives regularly conduct ”Hazards Identification Workshops.”

Their objective is to identify and better understand the aviation hazards & risks with air transport system stakeholders – strengthening information sharing and serving future updates of national aviation safety plans. In a second step, the risk or hazard can be mitigated.

Such hazards include adverse meteorological conditions or unstable approaches, which in extreme cases can lead to a runway excursion. This risk can be mitigated, for example, by timely reporting of weather conditions, adherence to standard operating procedures, enhanced training programs and  promotion of alerting systems on aircraft – such as the Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS).

How does this apply to helicopters?

To help improve safety levels in the rotorcraft industry, Airbus Helicopters’ Safety teams also conduct safety seminars. During these Safety Roadshows, our safety experts accompany civilian and military helicopter operators around the world on their path to improving operational safety.

These events are organised in many different countries and together with local aviation authorities, safety supervisors, pilots, maintenance engineers and senior management of the operators. Since 2009, Airbus Helicopters has organised more than 200 Safety Roadshows worldwide to promote and reinforce the in-flight safety culture to foster best practices in the industry and mitigate incidents.
